Smoke and Mirrors

The date is the first of October, a turning point in conscious thought occurs. How precious are the moments which, with normal consideration, would slip blissfully past into the category named "experience"? How many moments in human history have passed that slowed down would make an epic film. A walk to a bus stop in the rain, a glance across a room, a smile exchanged with a stranger, holding open a door to aid a quick escape from the rain, the first sip of a cold pint on a summers day, the lighting of a cigarette, taking that first step into a smoke-filled room, bodies rushing, bass crippling your ribs, gasping for air yet managing a scream when you hear the first tingling of your favorite tune, beat matching your first mix or learning to play that song you always thought you couldn't. This list I see, has the possibility to be almost infinite.

To me it has become apparent how much is at stake if we are to allow ourselves to forget. To allow a time to pass by without a second look. I have enjoyed deep conversations with someone who has both allowed an examination and framing of the past, yielding memories which I believed to be long gone, and also the creation of new memories so delicate in their intricacies yet even when looked at more simply, still seem incredible.

Arguably it is this today along with the past month or so, which has spurred such a desire to remember, to note down, to record, capturing life in its every form, not just experiencing but seeing, holding on to, allowing it not to slip by. So this then is to be the afore mentioned recording, a chronicle if you will, rantings of what is, on occasion, a thought-filled daydreamer, a lover of all things human, of life, of what is out there but also right here, things overlooked or hidden behind the facade of modern day to day living.

This is not to be a life story or a bunch of "dear diary" entries, that is not my intention, it is but a simple extraction of sometimes detailed observations or considerations of things and events, call it amateur sociology if you may, 'people-watching' perhaps. All I wish is to shed light on things un- or maybe partially seen, on those things given no more than a first thought, lacking an all important second glance.

At the risk of sounding poetic (as this is far from an attempt at that), this is me.

  1. 'How many moments in human history have passed that slowed down would make an epic film.'

Such a nice though man, so true as well, I always think people can just walk on top of things, sort of just accepting things. Without really looking; really taking in the incredible aspects of everything. If more people did that there would be less hate in the world I reckon.
